Happy Easter Weekend…!

Happy Easter Weekend...!

Busy me has been spending a good bit of time in the studio lately.. And I will soon have images to show for all my hard work. I have been offered an other solo exhibition this summer, which will be showing at the IrishArtCollector.com on Valentia Island and in the Killarney Art Gallery. Dates yet have to be confirmed but it should be sometimes in July… so stay tuned!

More in the good news department: My work has been accepted by a lovely contemporary art gallery in my home city of Québec, “La Galerie d’Art Marie Turgeon” represents several wonderful artists which I will be delighted to show with. I shall send them a few pictures on time for the summer.

Another lovely place in Québec, “La Gwal’Art” in Cap-Rouge, will also be showing a few pieces in time for an Art Festival in early June. It is a beautiful restaurant with a view to the St-Lawrence River with a “Breton” chef and they show artwork on an ongoing basis… We’ll see how it goes!

Have a lovely week-end…

Love is in the air…and yes, finally my goals for 2010

Love is in the air...and yes, finally my goals for 2010

Yikes, just realised this is my first blog post of 2010… Worst then last year…! Well, this is why the first title for my blog was “Amélie’s Sporadic Blog”… Ok, enough of beating myself up.

As a little girl Valentine’s day was always a big deal for me, (as were all the holidays really…) The house was always dressed up and decorated not only for Christmas and birthdays, but at any other possible occasion: St-Patrick’s, Halloween, and of course Valentine’s. The best set of plates and cutlery came out, the red candles, the decorations me and my brothers made at school over the years, and mum would use a heart-shape cookie cutter to shape the butter for the morning toasts… I remember dressing in red and white for school and making special earrings for the day with love hearts cut out in red cardboard hanging with a piece of pink yarn… (I guess I was pre-destined to a life of creativity…!) and mum and dad made sure I had some cinnamon hearts in my lunch box.. Very fond memories indeed.

“Ok Amélie, that’s all very well, but what’s happening in the Studio…?”

Well, so far I have completed 5 paintings, (of which I sold 2 already!) and I have been pretty good at the “other stuff” you have to do as an artist, (social networking, updating portfolio material, contacting new galleries etc…) Here are the new paintings of the year:

And last but not the least, here are my goals for 2010,

– Produce 60 paintings,
– Be more regular with my blog (ahem…)
– Get in 2 galleries on the main European continent,
– Get in 2 galleries in the US,
– Get in a gallery either in Montréal or Québec city,
– Keep an updated inventory of my work,
– Get better at keeping accounts of in and out,
– Get at least one article about me in a magazine,
– Get 30 more fans for my Facebook Fan page

Hummm… unfortunately most of them were also on my list last year… I will have to be more agressive..!

Well! Thanks a lot for reading, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Celebrating My Accomplishments…

The sun has just set on 2009, a new decade will start tomorrow… Wow!

A Successful Week…

A Successful Week...

I love weeks like this.. the Wine & Art and the days leading up to it proved to be quite successful… 5 paintings sold…! And, of course, lots of leaflets and business cards handed out… You never know when you might be contacted…

Now. on to work on those commissions I have to complete before Christmas…

Wine and Art…

Wine and Art...

How time flies… The Wine and Art Event in the Malton is already on our doorstep… For those unfamiliar with the event, it is organised by the Rotary club of Killarney. Local artists are asked to exhibit art for sale and they keep 30% for their chosen charity, a different one each year. This year the monies will be raised for the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, the Kerry branch of St-Vincent-de-Paul and the St-Francis special School in Beaufort.

As well as the art there is some beautiful wines to sample along with crackers and cheeses and the whole thing is just a lovely evening that I look forward to every year. Most of the paintings on my last post are for this event, and some will also be for the Killarney Art Gallery Christmas Exhibition, opening on December 6th. Here is a few more that i haven’t posted yet…:

The Event is on Thursday the 26th of November, in the Malton Hotel, Killarney (next to the train station) doors open at 7.30. Oh.. and make sure to stop and say hello…!

Fresh from the easel…

Fresh from the easel...

I completed these paintings in the space of a very few days… My new schedule for studio hours seems to work…!

I am preparing for te annual Wine & Art event given in the Malton Hotel in Killarney, which will be at the end of November…

Details to come!

Canadian Thanksgiving…

Canadian Thanksgiving...

“L’Action de Grâce” Like we call it at home… While our american neighbors and the majority of Canada held the tradition of turkey dinner, in my family it took a quite different twist…

As far as I can remember, in my family “L’Action de Grâce” was celebrated with… a picnic! During a hunting afternoon one day my dad discovered this little opening in the woods, next to a little sugar-shack, and he made a little fire for himself and thought it would be a nice spot for all the family to gather… Shortly after, Mum, Little me and my (then little) brothers were accompanying him for this autumnal picnic.

The night before, Dad would prepare a jar of home-made beans and some freshly baked bread, and the next morning, dressed in wellies and wooly jumpers,we would drive the 1/2h journey to our little sacred place, gather some branches for the fire and logs to sit on and heat up the beans in a pan over the fire. After that we would have some donuts with a warm cup of tea from the thermost.. mmmmh…

Of course we would make sure then that the fire was out and we would put the logs into place and ensure that our visit passed incognito, we would all go for a little forest walk then and look at mushrooms and other wanders…On the way back then we would stop at farm and get our pumpkins for Halloween and some lovely juicy apples.

This tradition is still being kept to this day and TODAY, the little clearing in the woods will be alive with the chats and laughter of Mum, Dad, my brothers Maxime and Louis and their respective wife and girlfriend, Sophie and Claire. Next year there will be one more as Maxime and Sophie are expecting a little boy…

I’m homesick…! But I am thankful to be living in such a beautiful and magical country that is Ireland.

What are you thankful for?

What’s in a name…

What's in a name...

Of course I am aware that my name isn’t the most easy to remember… Having a very french name has the advantage of sounding different and unusual, but at the same time can be a little… confusing! Although I have the movie “Amélie” to thank for, (one of my all times favorites.. not just for the title..!)since a lot of people would know about it and recognise the spelling..

To counter this problem I had the good idea to buy the domain name “emilygallery.com” as well as “ameliegallery”, which leads to the same website. Over my years living here and appearing once in a while in local papers and other media, I’ve had my name mispelled and twisted countless of times, and here are a few “variants”!:

real name:
Amélie Gagné
(pronouced like “family” without the “f” and “gang-ye”)

variants:

Ameile Ganga
Amelia
Amalie
Annalie
Emilia
Emmalie

And my favorite:

Emily Gaggle!
